Markov's equation $x^2+y^2+z^2=3xyz$ (1879). Its solutions form a tree grown out of $(1,1,1)$ by Vieta jumping: hold two coordinates, flip the third across its own quadratic. Frobenius's 1913 unicity conjecture says two distinct triples cannot share a largest coordinate, and it is still open.
